An industrially developed country, one of the world’s great industrial powers, which has lovingly preserved the traditional centuries-old way of life of its cities and towns with an exceptionally rich history — that is what modern Germany is. Centuries of feudal fragmentation also bore their positive fruits, for, after all, 300 principalities and free imperial cities, competing with one another, displayed their power and wealth in the astonishing beauty of their buildings. It is interesting to note that even now the diversity of German dialects is such that TV programs in the north of the country sometimes broadcast with sign-language interpretation when southerners are speaking. There is no ‘backward province’ in the Russian sense in the country, although differences in the economic development of the federal states are noticeable. Germany has always benefited from an advantageous geographical location, a mild climate and varied terrain.
