What level of English is required to participate in the program?

To participate in the program, the level of English should not be lower than Upper-Intermediate. Internship participants in Mauritius must be able to communicate and understand English freely.

What level of French is required to participate in the program?

French is not a primary criterion for enrollment in the Internship in Mauritius exchange program. If the participant knows this language at a fluent level, it simply increases their chances of finding a better internship. If the French level is not high or the program participant does not know this language, it will not affect the enrollment process in the exchange program.

Is it difficult to pass the interview on English language proficiency?

Absolutely not! During the language level check, the conversation is informal and on general topics — where you study, what subjects you are studying or have studied, why you want to go on the program, any hobbies, etc. The interview takes place with the program sponsor via Skype with the camera always on.

How to pay for the program?

After signing the contract, the IEC will charge an enrollment fee of €300 within 7 calendar days. The second part of the program cost is paid within 14 calendar days after the sponsor finds an internship placement and the participant confirms the offer.

Can I participate in the program for less than 3 months?

The minimum duration of participation in the program is 3 months. This is due to the sponsor’s program rules, and the duration cannot be changed.

How can I find accommodation in Mauritius if my employer does not provide housing?

In this case, the program sponsor can help you. For an additional fee, the host company can find suitable housing — in a student residence or a separate apartment. More information about the cost of this service can be obtained from the IEC representative.

My friend and I are going together; can we work in the same city?

This option is possible for small groups of up to 3 participants, but the sponsor does not guarantee it. When registering, you will need to provide the name and surname of your friend you want to travel with.

What is the minimum scholarship?

The minimum stipend paid to participants is €150-200. Yes, this is not the highest payment, but if your employer provides accommodation (this is more likely in the Tourism and Hospitality sector), this money is quite enough to live economically and stress-free on the island.

When can I fly to Mauritius?

Arrival dates (and departure) must coincide with the dates of the residence permit document issued by Mauritius. Therefore, participants must coordinate ticket dates with the program sponsor before purchasing and only buy tickets if the sponsor gives the “okay” on the dates.

Can I change employers?

All documents will be issued to a specific employer, which cannot be changed. In case of any disagreements with the employer, participants of the exchange program must contact the sponsor — they will help find the best solution.
