What level of English is required to participate in the program?
To participate in the program, the level of English must be no lower than Upper-Intermediate. A participant in the internship program in Mauritius must be able to communicate fluently and understand English.
What level of French is required to participate in the program?
French is not a primary criterion for admission to the Internship in Mauritius exchange program. If a participant is fluent in the language, it simply increases their chances of finding a better internship. If a participant’s French level is low or they do not know the language, this will not affect the admission process.
Is it difficult to pass an interview that tests English language proficiency?
Absolutely not! During the language assessment, the conversation is informal and covers general topics — where you study, which subjects you are studying or have studied, why you want to go on the program, whether you have any hobbies, and other things. The interview is conducted with the program sponsor via Skype, with the camera required to be turned on.
How can I pay for the program?
After signing the agreement with IEC, the entry fee of €300 must be paid within 7 calendar days. The second part of the program cost must be paid within 14 calendar days after the sponsor finds an internship placement and the participant confirms the offer.
Can I participate in the program for less than 3 months?
The minimum duration of participation in the program — 3 months. This is due to the sponsor’s program rules, and it’s impossible to “adjust” the dates.
How can I find accommodation in Mauritius if my employer does not provide housing?
In that case, the program sponsor can help you. For an additional fee, the host company can find suitable accommodation — in a student residence or in a private apartment. You can find out more about the cost of this service from an IEC representative.
My friend and I are going together, will it be possible to work in the same city?
This option is possible, but the sponsor does not guarantee it. When applying, you will need to provide the first and last name of your friend you want to travel with. Keep in mind — to increase your chances of interning together, you should study in the same field or both do an internship in Hospitality and Tourism and try to have the same level of English.
What is the minimum stipend?
The minimum stipend paid to participants — €150-200. Yes, it’s not the highest pay, but if your employer provides accommodation (this is more likely in the Tourism and Hospitality sector), this amount of money is quite enough to live frugally and without stress on the island.
When is it possible to fly to Mauritius?
Arrival (and departure) dates must match the dates on the document called Residence Permit, which is issued by Mauritius. Therefore participants must coordinate their ticket dates with the program sponsor before purchasing them and buy tickets only if the sponsor gives the ‘go-ahead’ for the dates.
Can I change my employer?
All documents will be issued for a specific employer, which cannot be changed. In case of any disagreements with the employer, participants in the exchange program should contact the sponsor- they will help find the best way out of the situation.
