Educational Career Training in the USA
Educational Career Training (ECT) is a structured J-1 Intern/Trainee program that combines professional training in U.S. K–12 schools with a cultural exchange experience. It is designed for international university students, recent graduates, and early-career professionals who want practical exposure to education, student services, and school operations in a real American school setting.
When does the program start and end?
Usually Aug 1–15 to Jun 1–15 (school-year dates are fixed).
Can I arrive late or leave earlier?
No. Late arrivals and early departures are not permitted.
Can I extend the program?
No. Extensions are not allowed.
Can I take a second job?
No. Second jobs are prohibited.
Can I bring dependents (J-2)?
No. J-2 dependents are not allowed for this program.
How much will I earn?
Many placements offer around $15/hour for 32–40 hours/week (varies by school).
Is placement guaranteed?
You are presented for hiring, but final selection is made by U.S. schools/districts.
What if I want to change schools?
Changes are not allowed without program approval. Do not resign or change host employer independently.
What happens if my visa is denied or I cancel?
A cancellation fee may apply (including visa denials).
