Au Pair in the USA: Your year in the USA

The Au Pair program is an exchange opportunity for young people aged 18 to 26 that lets you stay in the USA for one year and live with an American host family. Participants take care of children in American families and do light household tasks. In return, the family provides free room and board, a stipend, and partially covers the required training course in the USA. You don’t have to be a student or have a university degree to join Au Pair — a high school diploma is enough. However, you should love children and have documented childcare experience (at least 500 hours). An international driver’s license and regular driving experience (at least 50 hours) are also required. Both women and men can participate in the program, but men often find it much harder to be matched with a host family in the USA.

Why join this program?

Daily communication in English;
Travel around the USA;
Getting to know the country’s culture;
Invaluable experience working with children from American families;
Opportunity to take courses in the USA;
Daily interaction with people from ‘another world’.

These months of living and working in the United States have impressed me deeply. I live in a beautiful little house, and I can always go out to interact with the deer and squirrels on the road, an experience I have never had. The natural environment of the town I work is beautiful, there is no pollution, the weather is very blue, the air is too fresh!
