Destination: Volunteer in Brasil

Brazil was discovered by the Portuguese explorer Pedro Álvares Cabral on April 22, 1500. This first Don Pedro in Brazil’s history named the land he discovered Terra da Vera Cruz. At that time, between 2 and 6 million Indigenous people lived there. Today there are about 300,000. In the last decade, the country has become one of the world’s leaders in total GDP.
Brazil is like a mosaic: different cultures are woven into it, and you can spot a piece of Europe, a piece of Africa, and a piece of Asia here. The country’s capital, Brasília, designed by the renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, doesn’t resemble any other city in the world. From a bird’s-eye view you can see the main avenues and surrounding neighborhoods forming something like the shape of a jet airliner.
By the way, did you know that:
Brazilians are probably one of the happiest peoples in the world. Even when things aren’t going well, it’s common here to answer “How are you?” with “Everything’s great.”
Brazilians are very sociable and talk to each other about anything and everything.
When we hear “Brazil” we almost automatically finish the sentence: “…where there are so many wild monkeys.” However, that’s far from true — it’s actually quite hard to find monkeys here.
The Amazon rainforest is home to 20% of all the world’s plant and bird species.

What are people saying?

Order and Progress.
