What is volunteering?
Volunteering, or volunteer work, is socially beneficial activity carried out voluntarily without expectation of pay.
How much will I earn?
Volunteering is unpaid.
What languages do I need to know to participate in this program?
Participants should have conversational English; knowledge of Portuguese isn’t required but is a major advantage.
When should I apply for the program?
Volunteer in Brazil runs year-round — you’ll need to submit your documents at least 2–3 months before your preferred start date.
How do I pay for the program?
After you sign the agreement at IEC, you’ll need to pay the registration fee of $300 within 7 calendar days.
The second part of the program fee is payable after you’re fully registered in the sponsor’s system.
Do I need to be a student to join a volunteer program?
No — we welcome anyone who is 18 or older to join our volunteer program. Many projects don’t require special skills or prior experience, but you should be able to adapt to a new culture and be ready to contribute to a good cause.
How many hours will I work, and will I have any days off?
Volunteers work 2 to 6 hours a day.
Where will I live?
Volunteers usually stay in a volunteer house in the city center or with host families. Housing costs start at $150 per month.
Can I join a program with my friends?
When you apply, you’ll need to provide the full name of the friend you’re traveling with, but the sponsor can’t guarantee you’ll be placed in the same project.
How long can I participate?
A volunteer project usually lasts three months.
